Default huge chip fell off

hello all... got back to my car the other day and found the following "damage" on my rear bumper... it was probably because the previous owner did a crappy paint job on the bumper...

i wanted to use dr color chip, but i don't think it's good for such a large patch...

My Brother...you will need to remove the bumper and have it repainted. Go to the lexus dealership in your area and ask to speak with a service man. Do not... I repeat........ DO NOT have lexus repaint your car. Simply talk to a service man and ask if they (Lexus) use contractors for jobs such as this. The contractors cost significantly less.
I got hit by a car a few weeks ago while in a parking lot. The damage was to the paint job on my bumper. I have a friend that works for Lexus in the service department and he put me in touch with the right people to repaint the bumper. Cost was $125 dropped it off at lunch time Monday and got the car back wednesday lunch time. My car looks perfect.
The only thing lexus is going to do is cost you much more. However their service guys will make sure you have the right color.
Cheers,
Ian

thanks... i wasn't even thinking of going to the dealer for something like this (even tho i did pay $75 for them to replace my stinkin' cabin filter)...

anyone know of a good reputable shop for a good paint job?

i'm assuming it'll be a bit more than your $125 to remove and repaint the bumper... don't they have to do something about the sensors too?

That looks like it's been hit based on all the cracks surrounding the big chip.

Dude I wish you were down here in the DMV so that I could take you to the guy who did mine. $125 for the paint job and my lexus has the sensors too. The spot that had to be painted on mine was much larger than yours.
I hope you don't end up spending too much on this. Unless you have money to burn...
cheers,
Ian

Dr. Paint Chip !!! Not Dr. Paint PATCH. It's not going to work on this.

You're in NJ, I can recommend a place in Madison NJ. I don't know how close you are to there. I'll find the name tomorrow and let you know. My friend rammed up her front end (MDX) and she got it fixed through them and price was fair and job looked very good.

Thats good ol bondo, make sure whoever fixes it takes it down to bear plastic and lay some new material in. If you just lay another layer on top of that one, the paint will get sucked in and you will end up with a defect called "mapping" looks like a little map drawing. If you were in S. Fla I would be more them gald to help at my place... good luck

bondo??? ugh!! i remember i got scammed by some guy who "bondo'd" me... i was walking out of a store one day and a couple guys out of a truck said they could fix my large dent quickly and inexpensively... it piqued my interest and then as soon as they saw i was interested they started working on the car without my approval... they drilled a hole in the rear fender and started pulling with some tool... then they finished up with some bondo... and said... ok now you just gotta go paint it yourself... $400 please...

i soon found out it would end up costing me much much more... like another $1000 or so... lesson learned i guess...

anyway... how much do you think they'll charge me at a legit place to redo this bondo'd bumper?

thanks.

A good bodyshop woul take that bumper out w/ sensors take the old material out and them comp. match the paint w/ a factory comparable 2 stage. Should range between $250 - $450 bucks... About $80 only between paint and materials rest is labor.

That blue is not easy to match either so go to a good place that you have seen the work... look at the car in the SUN please, do not inspect paint jobs inside....just a FYI

oh ok, that is a very easy thing to do but like everything in life if you want good materials it will cost. I dont know how picky you are with your car but I am sure there are some places that will take the job in for $100 bucks or so using single stage paint and doing some shortcuts ... it depends on how you look at it...

EXACTLY !!! In a dark shop, black car with blue bumper could look like they match. Check out in the sun, because the sun is not just harsh on leather and women's faces, they also reveal all flaws on a cars surface. If the paint job is bad, overspray, streaks, etc. you'll see it under direct sunlight.

Did you not have a cell phone to call the cops as soon as those clowns started drilling holes in your car without your approval or a work order? LOL
