Some idiot was backing up and chipped some paint off of my parking sensor. It seems to still work however it does not look very appealing....its not that noticable BUT I NOTICE IT! Do i have to change the whole sensor or can it be resprayed?
Change the whole bumper. j/k You can paint the sensor itself back but you'll need to sand down the original paint on it so that you dont have paint which is too thick in some areas. You want it back to original paint thickness at the maximum because thicker can cause the sensors to malfunction.
Yes, you can repaint and smoothing out or not is just asthetics. Just don't over do it with touch up paint. Replacing is probably not price wise as I think each sensor is over $100.
Two weeks ago I had the front left sensor hit by a rock and it chipped the paint off. Of course the nav screen told me everytime that I started the car that the sensor was bad. The dealer tried to touch it up with factory paint but it would not work. The sensors come pre painted in the color of your car. Fortunately it is a CPO car. The sensor price is 245 retail with 1.3 hours of labor to replace it from the flat rate manual. If I had to pay for it the price would have been about 400 bucks with tax. They ain't cheap those little sensors.
The wife hit a deer with her Monertey, last year. Messed up the front end, including bumper and sensors. The body shop sprayed them at same time as new skin, and they seem fine. Of course this is a Ford product, and not sure how my LS would react to spraying Ford paint on her. Or maybe that is the trick..
The overspray is fine. Of the pre-owned that I saw, many dealers were repainting the bumpers as they are the most chipped, and easiest to just spray up and each you could tell was sprayed over the sensor.
HoneyGee2... WOW... $400+ to get ONE sensor done? Now that's called a rip job.

I thought so at first also...the service advisor I deal with is a really ggod guy and he showed me the prices...to get to one of the sensors you practiclally have to remove the whole panel behind the front bumper...its a real bear to get to.
