Default Parking Sensor problem

I have been a long time member to the CL as this is not my first Lexus but I am new to LS430 forum.

I have just bought 04 LS430. It had couple problems.
- Mirrors not moving - found thread with steps to correct it - 10 minutes DIY which was great/

I cannot find a solution to my 2nd problem. My parking sensor on front driver side keep signaling an obsticle in the corner even though there is none. I have cleaned it but doesn't make a difference.

Is there a fix w/o getting myself in removal the bumper and sensor replacement?

Thanks!

i dont think you can replace a sensor w/o removing the bumper.

I had the same thing on my 04 and I noticed one of the sensors had the paint chipping off...I took all the paint off of it and cut a circle of electrical tape and put it on...no more ghost obstacles and it detects just fine...next step is to get touch up paint and use that instead of tape....so check to see if one of the sensors has paint missing.

Couple do have chips (corner sensor and one almost in the middle). The chips are not in the circle or touching the black thin circle. Those are more on edges of outward circle which I assume just hold the sensor.

I have noticed that when I am in D, the driver front sensor keep beeping even though there is no obstacle. It shows one blinking line

When I am in R, the same sensor works just fine and shows obstacles and distance and stop beeping when there is no obstacle.

What may be causing it to malfunction when going forward?

Hey Luke, Did you ever fix your drivers front sensor? I'm having the same problem.
Thanks

One of my front sensors did the same thing a year ago, I cleaned it but it still malfunctioned so I just turned the system off. I turned it on a couple times again since then and it was still malfunctioning. But just recently I turned it on again and it's been working fine ever since. Fixed itself.

Same thing happened to mine. In D (and, IIRC, N), it malfunctions, but in R, it's fine. It turns out two sensors in the front where bad, replaced under warranty (~$580, IIRC). Personally, I prefer to have no sensors. The other alternative is to turn them off.

Actually it is possible to change a sensor w/o removing the bumber. I replaced mine after finding a used one on Ebay for $95. I replaced one on the drivers side corner, which I think are easier than the centers. Its been 6 months and all is well.

After I posted my response the other day, I checked my sensors (switch is usually off). I periodically check just to see if they're working. Low and behold, the front PS corner one is bad! Guess I'll be taking it to the dealer...luckily the rig is still under warranty. Of the 5 sensors, 2 were replaced last year. This will be the third. This is really the only unreliable component on the vehicle. I wish there were some way to disable the entire feature, just like one can disable the automatic retracting steering wheel.

I had the same problem, one of the middle front sensors was going bad and replacing the sensor at the dealer fixed the problem.

FYI - the reason why it stops beeping when on R is because the middle front sensors are disabled when reversing. (Thank you captain obvious.)
