Default HELP!!! 2001 LS430 ULTRA selling

I have an 01 LS430 black on black ULTRA model, with 81k miles.

Its a one -owner Florida car and I am the first and only owner.

The original MSRP sticker for the car was over $71k when I bought it new.
It has every available option made by Lexus at the time, including the Lexus chrome wheels. Been dealer serviced since new.

Today, on a trade with a Lexus dealer, they ONLY offered me $14,500.00.

Does anyone have a better suggestion on where to move it quick and realize more money. I am getting another (2nd) LS460.

the only thing I would think is to do a private sell, and put it on craigslist, autotrader, or cars.com......your gonna get more money that way.

Exactly. I hate trade in prices because this is exactly what is going to happen. Take the car as trade in and give you nothing basically, 14,500, then clean it and wash it and put it on the car lot for 20k. With your mileage and UL I am sure you would be able to sell for 14.5k EASY and make someone out there very happy (in turn making you turn a smile for doing something nice) or clean it , wash it, and list for a reasonable price and move it while making some money and not letting the dealer price gauge the next person.

Was looking at later model LS430s; let me check what the equipment differences are between the 01 and the 03-04s I've been checking out mostly.

See what Edmunds Private Party is and put up for $1000-2000 less, assuming that doesn't bring it down to $14K.

I'm guessing with the low miles, one owner, UL loaded, private party must be $18K atleast, so move it for $16500 fixed. Make $2K more than trade-in.

Good luck.

There aren't that much difference in interior options between the 01-03 and the 04-06. The other major difference would be the 6 speed tranny in the 04-06.

In other words, I wouldn't hesistate to get sellhomes clean and well-priced LS
if that's what you're contemplating

I think your Lexus dealer is completely within the ballpark for the current market conditions. Don't expect it to be any better privately selling.

I have a 2004 LS Ultra Luxury with 47k miles for $26,995 and I can't get a buyer. Everyone keeps lowballing me and I am told not to expect more than about $24,000 for this thing, regardless of the fact Kelly Blue Book and NADA place it as being worth $32,000+ retail.

It's a beotch trying to unload it, only made worse by the fact that the car is pristine and has always been serviced well. People act like I am a chain smoker who has wrecked it into a wall or something the way they keep lowballing me with ridiculous bids.

So, I too am very frustrated with these market conditions.

Exactly what he said. The market value for an '01 is very close to what the dealer is offering you. Considering that I keep track of prices through auctions and other outlets, that is pretty much how much the car is worth to the dealer (maybe $14K-$16K to a private party).

I know your not too excited to hear this, but we are all going through the same thing. The car is about 8 years old now, and has a complete generation ahead of it (LS460 will mostly likely be treated to a minor face lift next year). Not to mention people looking to buy a used car in the 15-20K range are holding out their money due to the current energy costs/economic conditions.

I feel your pain as i watch the value of our LS drop on a daily basis... and it doesn't seem like its going to get any better unfortunately.

I've been eyeing the LS430 as my next project vehicle/everyday car and I find it shocking how little these cars are selling for.

$14k...? A coworker just bought a Yaris for $17k. A YARIS.

It boggles me how people are paying $25k for a new Camry or Accord when that same cash (or less) will get you a pristine LS430. CPO with 3 years warranty even!

I just don't understand it. An LS430 right now is the deal of the century for someone trying to get into the luxury segment with 20k or so in his pocket.

When my current daily driver lease is up I want in.

As for the original poster...

1. Ebay. They changed the pricing to only bill you if the car sells. So it doesn't hurt to try.
2. Craigslist as said before.
3. Post it here on CL if you haven't yet. A Black on Black UL should be easy to move...

Good luck!

I think at $16k it would be a great deal, and I would buy it, however, I committed to a deal today for a 2001 LS NAV at $14K, one owner, factory service, 90K with the 90K service just completed. The car is being inspected by Lexus today (@$120) before I commit to the purchase. If there are any issues at all, I will consider your car. I am in AZ and black is not my first choice in colors but I would love to have a UL.

Yessir, that's exactly what I'm contemplating.
Though it's older than what I've been looking at the last few weeks, I know it's a CL member and that's worth something at least.

I think CL members should habitually purchase from other CL members. For the buyer, he knows the previous owner was an enthusiast and a caretaker. For the seller, he know his baby (car) is going to the hands of yet another enthusiast and caretaker. It's just a better deal all around.

I haven't had a strong preference on exterior/interior colors, so black/black is just fine by me. A little use of the search tool indicates that this LS430 even has new floormats.

So why not? I've been hitting up my bank about loan terms etc. in the case that I found something already, so...

OP, keep in mind that the trade-in (vs. selling privately and purchasing the new LS) will reduce your tax in FL by about $1K, so you'll have to sell for at least a grand more to just break even. I wish I'd have waited 2 years to buy my LS. LOL

LOL I agree. I've been saying this for a couple years now about the LS, and it's even more true with every passing day. In fact, I've been saying this since the 1980's when I bought 3-4 year old MB's (when MB's were arguably the best cars in the world) for the price of a new Impala, etc., and then watched the MB flatten out in depreciation from that point on. I do NOT understand people of less than "unlimited" means buying new cars. I drove 6 different MB's and BMW's (0 to 4 years old when purchased) over a period of 12 years or so and the total depreciation for all of them combined was $10K (and probably never spent more than $1K total on unexpected repairs). All things considered, I think the LS is now the best deal ever on a luxury car (until tomorrow when it depreciates even further )
