Default Replacing headlight bulb question....

As the title states, my passenger HID is a diff. color than the driver side. It looks more yellowish than the driver side. I'm not sure if the passengerside is just going bad. But they don't match.

I was wondering how hard it is to change the bulb? It seems like alot in the way on top of the hood. Anybody have any slight step-by-step instructions? Is it alot of work? Will I have to remove the front bumper?

What kind of bulb will I need? to replace the factory ones. I can kinda remember reading a post about which bulbs they sell on ebay for like $88 that are OEM for the LS430. Anyways....thanks in advance for the help.

Default Details....

I haven't replaced the primary lights but I have already switched out the high beams with some 8500K bulbs and it wasn't too difficult. This was the first time I had ever done it but it was pretty easy to figure out. Typically you will want to disconnect the positive on the battery to prevent any foul ups (Accidental shorting). Next, you have to remove the covers that are right next to the headlamps that are retained by two plastic fasteners. (You will probably damage the fasteners in the process but they can easily be replaced very affordably. Just take it to Advance Autoparts and they can match it up for you.) You will also want to remove the covers in the engine bay. One is to the left of the air cleaner and the other is right next to the windshield wash container on the right side. I didn't have to remove the bumper or any other parts, but I did have to get my son to help because his hands were a lot smaller than mine and it's pretty cramped in there. You should be able to see the lamps once the covers are removed and you should be able to see how they are installed. You will see the bulb connected to a coupler that has a locking brace, you should be able to simply pull up on the brace and separate it from the back of the bulb (this will make more sense when you can see what I'm talking about.) Once removed, you should simply be able to twist the bulb out. Pay attention to how you removed it to make it easier to replace. They will only go on one way due to the coupler around the bulb. Good luck, hope this helped.

I haven't gotten a chance to get around it. I need to order the bulbs first. Now If i order any D2R...which i have an 01 LS430. Can the bulb make the color difference? Say for instant if I bought a diff. brand. Would that change anything? Or will it still look OEM? Do you guys know where on ebay I could get the OEM ones? Thanks

For HID bulbs, if you replace one you should replace both. Over time they color shift and if you just change one it'll never match. I think my buddy has some D2R's from his GS430 for sale actually.

It's extremely cramped in there-I don't know what the heck lexus was thinking of

Regarding your 8500k, it's not those cheap brand that is 80 watt is it?
If it is, you should remove them b/c the high wattage will/may melt the wires.

Back in my early dumb days, I did that to my GS and it started to melt.
Fortunately, I took it out right away and threw them out.

I wouldn't go beyond the 6000k, 4300k is factory.

6000k is just white with a blue tint to it correct me if i am wrong. I bought my bulbs on ebay for only $30 bucks total with shipping and they look fine. I used the 5000k bulbs and they look just white just the way i like it with no blue tint.
I ordered them from this guy and just make sure u tell him the bulb size and color u want

Default 8500K bulbs

No, they are 8500K / 55w (same as the factory only brighter and bluer bulb) they are the only DOT approved bulbs available on the market. I have seen the other foreign made knockoffs that are 80 - 100 watts and yes, I too have experienced the wire melting you are talking about... not a fun nor cheap experience. These are manufactured by a company called "Euro Dezigns" and this is there website.. http://www.eurodezigns.com/ (for anyone interested) I have installed their products on my Escalade ESV Platinum, my LS 430 and previously on my 2000 Seville STS with no issues at all. They are reasonably priced and they are the same voltage/wattage as the OEM bulbs.
