Default How badly did I get ripped off?

I recently purchased a certified pre-owned 2005 LS430 w/19,500 miles from my local Lexus dealer (Roseville,CA). It's flint with 18" Lexus chrome wheels, a black interior, burt walnut wood, and a suede headliner; it also has the Custom Luxury Package (M/L audio, adaptive cruise, headlamp washers, power doors, etc.). I opted for the extended warranty which covers me up until 100,000 miles as well as LoJack. I paid $42491+$1600 for the extended warranty. How badly did I get ripped off?

You typically pay more at a Lexus dealership. It's for the piece of mind. Many of the people on here that got "great deals" normally buy it from a private sale or at auctions.

how recently was recently...if it was in the past couple of months...to be frank, you did ripped of...05 with 19k should have been in the ball park of 33-34k...atleast thats what i have seen ny region!!....in ny all dealers buy their cars using a book called GALVES as a guideline....in that book your car is worth about 27500...which means ultimately by the time the car makes it to front line ready for sale the car will cost the dealer around 29-30k...typical used car profits are around 1500- 2500...hence i came up with the value of 33k. this applies to lexus dealers as well....since they all get the cars at the same place, usually a fleet sale by lexus at a local auction!!

you did pay alot, but I dont think you got ripped. considering your car has less than 20k its still nearly new. Most cars in the 30k range aren't custom luxury, don't have a 100k warranty, are a year older, and have way more miles(not that it matters on a lex )

honestly you probably could have negotiated it down to 37k. Don't beat yourself up though, if you keep this car for a long time, it wont matter Besides you'll probably get great service from the dealer you bought it from.

lexus salesmen will tell you that they get 8k on the sale of an LS. thats what they expect. thats why non lexus dealers are the way to go. its silly when you go to dealer lots and see how many LS's are just sitting on the lot. you would think that they would want to move them.

There were a couple things I considered when I decided to buy from my local Lexus Dealer. First off, free car washes for the life of the vehicle. I have the unlimited pass at my local was, so considering I'm going to keep the vehicle 5 years, I figured that's about $6500ish in savings on car washes alone. As far as paying too much, glad I used KBB

Gratz on the purchase.
Was the car on the lot already "Lexus Certified", or was it "as is" and then you added for the warranty? If it was "certified" then you also get your 1st oil service free.

Having come from the car business (Lexus included), $1,500 to $2,500 profit on LS is SUPER LOW! It doesn't seem LSorBS negotiated that much off Sticker price, maybe 1k off the sticker, so it seems. However Custom Luxury is really nice car, even more rare than the Ultra in my opinion. You may have not gotten the "Lowest" price, but I know you'll be happy w/ your car for a long time. Congrats, again!

wow the salesman must've been super happy with that sale, also took u hook line and sinker for the 1500 extended warranty.

extended warranties are a losers bet, especially with a lexus. If anything, thing don't go wrong until after 100,000 miles. In the case of a lexus car, things don't go wrong until after 150,000 and even then it's still a big IF depending how the car has been maintained.

if u didn't take the warranty, you'd have 1500 dollars in your wallet. And if things do go wrong, it will probably cost u 1500 dollars to repair. So what are u really gaining ? Mind as well keep the 1500 dollars.

I do see a pretty big price differences between used cars in California and New York. A few thousands at least.

LSorBS, don't feel so bad. I paid a lot for mine too from the Lexus dealer last year. $42k for 2004 Ultra. It was certified and the extended 3 years 100k was included. Same as you, lifetime car wash at the dealer and they do a pretty good job at it (I would guess $10 wash as its an automated exterior with hand drying, vacuum and wipe down interior). I would guess the dealer made over $7k easily from the deal if not more. I have no regrets as I have perfect peace of mind in anything that can happen mechanically, they'll take care of it without questions and I won't have to argue any points to them.

LSorBS,

I don't think you did THAT bad, the purchase part is all over now, the only thing that matters now is you are happy with the car. Plus you are planning to drive it for a long time, a few years from now, the purchase price is not important.

Although I realize I may not have gotten the best deal, I don't feel too bad about it. I got 8 years worth of warranty, free car washes and a fantastic automobile. It's funny going from this to my Avalanche. The last time I drove it, I was SHOCK that the steering wheel didn't move out of the way for me, and the mirrors just SAT their, immobile. Then, once exiting the vehicle I lightly closed the door, and it NEVER closed on it's own. It's funny how all these little things go unnoticed until you drive in a vehicle without them. I test drove the entire class (Audi A8, 750Li, S600 etc.) and not one compared in the area of down-right comfort. It's a great vehicle, I'll make sure to post pictures soon! Also, @ KillerGS4, thanks for the comment about the Custom Lux. package, it's makes us non-refrigerated/massaged drivers fell just a little bit better.
