Default 2001 LS430 Navigation issue - only one destination option?

On my drive over to my parents today, just for fun I
thought I'd set the nav as I have their place as a marked point. Well,
I noticed the address button was greyed out and so after lunch with
the folks I thought I'd try resetting the nav system with the fuse
reset method. Well now there's only the manual "map" destination
button not greyed out - everything else is totally greyed out and can't be pushed.

So I removed the battery connection for 10 minutes. Still not working (it tracks location live, you can select a destination manually by the map function and it routes, but the other destination methods aren't available). I ejected the DVD to have a look, and there is a minor scuff on it, and it could theoretically interfere with the read I guess, but then why would the map load at all?

I hope it doesn't mean I have to buy the new 7.1 DVD for $260- then again, I hope it is at worst that simple.

Thanks for reading. Any idea of how to fix this would be greatly appreciated..

Are you trying to punch in the nav while the car is moving? Could be why its grayed out.

To answer your question on behalf of Bryan... It is as if the car is moving when in actuality it is not. The NAV still works finr, shows marked points etc. Just won't let you type anything in (exactly like when the car is moving). The buttons are greyed out just as they would be when the car is moving...

Any ideas?

I have a 2001 LS and I have had this same issue recently with the buttons grayed out when the car is in Park and not moving. Now I have a problem receiving a GPS signal and the GPS icon is not there under the arrow on the top left of the screen. Did you ever find out what was causing this issue? I upgraded my nav disk from the original 2001 disk in 2005 with the latest version at that time and had zero problems until a few months ago.

Hopefully it wasn't my thread, because after a few months, the new disc didn't help, and it's back to disabled options. Anyone have any luck?

I went up to the dealer and the tech unplugged the harness from the unit in the trunk for a few minutes and plugged it back in and it has been working fine since.

That would be a Manual reset. Often times with Computer components a disconnect for a few min will reset the system. Some INTERNET providers will tell you to unplug power for 10 min and then retry the unit.
