I've got a 2001 LS430 and the check engine light came on a few days ago and now the car is getting difficult to start and once started the car hesitates for a bit.....any ideas to what the problem may be?
It's usualy the MAF sensor or O2 sensor ... you could buy the OBD II scanner to read the error codes. Autozones can read it for free if you have one close by.
Would this repair be covered under the powertrain warranty? 6yrs/70,000 miles?
Like I've said, you need to find out exactly what the problems are. The 'check engine' light is more related to emission control (smoke, pollution that kind of things ...). Fixing those are relatively easy. I recently bought a scanner for my Mercedes check engine. It turned out the downstream (after the CAT) O2 sensor on the left side went south.
The OBD II scanner cost as low as $10 for a simple one. I got mine for $170. Hope this helps.
