Default Check Engine Light on... CRAP!!!

My check engine light just turned on recently. Just hit 115K miles on my SC430 a few weeks ago. Is there a service that I'm missing? Running absolutely fine, oil change recently as well. Wanted to inquire before I took it to a shop! Thanks!

Haven't had it happen to any of my Lexus so far. But from personal experience with my 996 Carrera, the Check Engine Light (CEL) indicated a MAF malfunction which read as an O2 sensor failure. On my Mercedes E430, CEL's were usually from O2 sensor malfunctions or ignition malfunctions, never from a "service pending."

GL with your diagnosis.

Don't panic yet. The engine check light came on in our jeep GC.....the only problem was the gas cap. Small crack in the plastic seal.

Loose gas cap is the first (and easiest) thing to look at. CEL issues half the time other than the gas cap seem to be an O2 sensor.

May be able to take it to a local parts shop and get the code read for free.

yep, but they almost always will NOT reset, just unplug battery and start over....if the light comes back on, then worry over what the codes are reading...

Autozone and lots of other auto part stores will read the code free for you.

Went by the local autozone and they hooked it up to the scanner. They printed out two little slips that identify the problem, though it doesn't make much sense to me.

here they are, maybe someone can shed some light:

TROUBLESHOOTING P0446
DEFINITION: EVAP (evaporative emission system) system vent control circuit

TROUBLESHOOTING P0446
DEFINITION: EVAP system incorrect purge flow

I had either squirrels or mice get into the underside of one of my cars and eat away at some wiring. Check engine light followed. You never know!

I couldn't find a 446 error I did find 443 which covers the EVAP purge. This may be simple as Bon mentioned a loose vacuum line or little more complex.

check/replace the gas cap as others suggest.
also check if it has a loose tube. If nothing works, take it to the repair shop.
