Default LS430 Top Speed? (merged threads)

This car really gets up and go between 100 and 140. I am thinking that the transmission is geared for higher top speed than low end zip. Can an car buff tell me?

i thought i read that the ls430 tops out at 130mph?

if you talk about pull, that's about the v8. larger engine they have better pull on high end

LS430 has a speed limiter at 130 or 131mph. The car can go much faster but its limited cause they went wil all season tires. The LS400 are supposedly limited at 149mph but some of us have gone faster. I have personally seen 153mph on my speedo. The car was still pulling, slowly but pulling. I let off the gas because got scared. The car pulls extreamly strong to about 135-140mph then slows down some. If I remember right someone here hit 160+ with and older LS400 but that may have been in europe.

Do a search for my name and you may still find my 153mph story and the ticket I got..

Jerry

PS This weekend driving back with the wife from a quick vacation in Naples, Florida I got smoked by a minivan. I had the cruise at 82mph. That will not do. So I let him get way ahead went over a small hill and I could see Nada for miles, punched and within seconds I was doing 120mph. By 125mph the wife said enough. It was fun while it lasted...

Do any of you guys think the 98-00 pull harder than the 01-03s? I think the 98-00 get up and go faster than the newer ones. It could be just me. Oh Horta funny story, at time don't you wish you were alone in your car? lol jk bro.

they are just as fast. the "slowness" you talking about is the throttle response, since the 01-03 ls430 got the full drive by wire system. just like talking about the gs430 and the gs400.

I wish the 05 ls had the throttle of my 98 gs. The feel is so there. The top speed I have obtained was about 125 because every time I get there I have thoughts of death and slow down. I can't even imagine getting a ticket at that speed. They would throw me in jail I think.

Actually- it;s reverse. Larger engines have more low-end torque in general. Also depends on tuning.

Take Honda 4 cylinders for example- very low- low end torque but wind them up and WOW. lot's of horsey's.

If it was tuned exactly the same, the 430 would have more low ed torque than the 400. Do to technology and tuning differences, the 400 feels torquier. The drive by wire pays a huge part, too.

when i said high end, i meant high end speed, like after 80 or 100mph. get a v6 and it's hard to compete with the amount of power the v8 is putting out at that speed

oh, yeah- I agree with that.

The lack of torque on the smaller engines coupled with lower gearing kills them on the higher speeds.

Can someone confirm the speed limiter is set @ 130? I search & search but didn't see anything definitive.

Very very easy. Hit the gas and hold it down for about 35 seconds. You will hit the limiter. Nothing happend just the Speed needle bounces.

My understanding was that the LS430 was much quicker.

the best I got from my LS430 is about 129ish...
I got nervous about the tires cause they are not built for high speed....

weried enough.. the fastest I ever gone was on my first boosted Accord at 155MPH 5 yrs ago....
Well, never try to break the speed limiter on my lexuses...
