One question, anyone kno how many POI's this disc will have... I have been waitin 4 this disc, as a new road opened this yr (April), and makes the distance and time 2 the highway much quicker... Whenever we use the nav, we have 2 NOT follow the navigation

Thumbs up I agree digital_b

I would like to know the same thing digital_b, I don't want to pay for the labor the dealership will charge me to do the work. Hopefully I can find someone who knows how to load the new disc to my system. GOD IS GOOD ALL TH TIME.

Default Its user upgradeable

When I picked up my 2001 LS-430 earlier this year, I bought the 2003 DVD and upgraded the nav software and database. The procedure took me only about 5-10 minutes to perform. The DVD unit for the navigation is in the trunk -- as I recall, you needed to lift the trunk mat, unscrew something, and then hit the eject button on the DVD drive and swap disks. It was a bit tight but no big deal.

Still, if you have a good relationship with your service advisor, you could probably just have him order the DVD for you and get it installed on your next service visit.

Default Nav update (cschow)

Cschow, did you replace your navigation disc yourself or did you let the dealership do it. If the dealership did it for you, how much did they charge? If you did it youself how much did they charge for the disc and was it hard to do or easy. Also is there a whole lot to mess up when changing nav disc or very liitle, such as wires etc. GOD IS GOOD ALL THE TIME.

I did it myself. I don't remember whether I bought the DVD from LexusParts or whether I got it from a local dealer. As I recall, they were both charging approximately the same price. The procedure is pretty simple. I never did it before and it took me all of 5-10 minutes. It was a bit scary when I first turned on the car afterwards, since during the first time you start up after you change the disk the car has to reload the navigation software itself, so it takes longer than normal before the screen goes to its normal state. Everything is normal after that first startup, of course.

I just noticed that Lexus parts lists the same part number for the DVD, even when switching between products for the 2001 and 2004 LS-430s. I wonder whether this means post-update 2001-2003 LS430s would get the same navigation interface thats on the 2004 LS430s. Be interesting to see!

Default Nav DVD Drive in '04 LS430

To get to the DVD drive in my '04 LS430 -

Lift the trunk carpet on the right side.
Lift the cover over the spare tire and locate the panel to the right.
Pull the one plastic plug holding a panel to the right of the spare, the drive is now exposed.
Remove the two hex head screws with phillips slots.
Lift the front of the drive (side closest to the spare), rotating the front up.
Slide the open/close slide to the open position.
Turn the Ignition to on, the Nav screen will warn that the DVD door is open.
Push the button of the open/close slide and the drive will eject the DVD.

Now we need to understand what is on the DVD so we can make an update to remove the initial question screen. There are a lot of .KWI files that are the Nav System data. If anyone knows Japanese, that would help. I found the link -
www.yetanotherhomepage.com/ j7xx/software/editors/kwiddce.html
that goes to Knowledgeware, Inc., but I can't follow what to do next.

I wouldnt delete any of the files as you mite just delete the cursor that shows wher u r.
