Default "Flawed Gems"

The latest Consumer Reports (June '04) has an article called "Flawed Gems". It's about the midsized luxury cars (Mercedes E320, BMW 530i etc). Basically the article pans ALL of the cars it reviewed and recommended buyers look at the Lexus LS430, even though it's bigger and a bit more costly.

But we knew that!

I love it!

To me, Toyota has been in that position for well over a decade. Some car buyers seem to have a mental block if it isn't a marquee like Benze or BMW.

The other argument is that to get a little, you give a little. ie...engine for reliability..blah-blah. The all time one liner..."they are bland and uninspiring." I laugh to myself...Toyota is known for taking some styling ques from the Benzies...I dunno.

I wish I had a nickel for every time some owner of a Jaguar or other less than reliable car dismissed my Lexus for having no "character". If a car runs beautifully always, does what it is supposed to do, never lets you down, is a pleasure to drive because even the small things work seamlessly, why is that boring and bland? If "character" is leaving you at the side of the road knowing that in a few days your wallet will be thinner fixing the thing then they can have character. They are like women who date violent ex-cons because they are "exciting". They get what they deserve I suppose.
