I don't want to read that entire thread, but here's a fact, not an opinion. Consumer Reports recommended 6/8 Lexus models this year . Only one BMW model was recommended out of 7. That says something. Here's another fact, the LS430 is the CR top pick of all luxury cars in 2004 .

Default 7 Series

Don't knock the 7 Series. They look great on the lifts in BMW service bays nationwide. The Chevy Cavalier loaner cars are surprisingly peppy too!

I passed on the BMW 7 series for a number of reasons. I do believe that it is a nicer driving car than the Lexus. I don't like the new styling however, and will not tolerate the reliability issue associated with one. Also, ever notice that BMW drivers tend to be on the annoying side?

I am over there slapping em with facts. Opinions are cool but there is a LOT OF MISINFORMATION in that thread. So I'm gonna straigten it out SICK STYLE.

Some think the LS is 5 competition?

Plus Consumer Reports really knocked the 7 Series this year.

But why would BMW owners want to listen to objective and unbiased opinions from CR that doesn't have any stake one way or the other?
(heavy sarcasm)

Good job 1SICKLEX....go get them!

It's a little pathetic to see the 7-series trying to look better than the LS in all respects, but admittedly it all comes down to the numbers (as 1SICK has mentioned in that forum). Granted, I love the 7-series (specifically the 2nd-gen model, my father owns a '98 740iL. Drove it many times before, and I really love that car ). I like to think though that the LS and the 7-series are on two totally different platforms (i.e. different body shape, interior materials, etc.), and so I believe it's unfair to compare them.

Just my $.02

Yeah, no one here hates the 7 or BMW like some of them just blindy hate the LS and Lexus and dismiss it no matter it's credentials. I also loved the old 7 (especially with the sport package with M-parallel spoke rims). The LAST generation beat the S/7 Jag in Car and Driver, then the LAST generation LS 400 placed 2nd to the 7 with the sport package. The new 7 CONFUSES me as BMWs are supposed to be driving machines but with I-drive, it just takes away from the driving experience. And no longer do they have the wonderful driver's oriented dashs.

Weird moves to me. Still a solid car though.

Page 78 of April 04 issue of Consumer Reports: while the LS430 is the best (almost 80% above average), the BMW 7 Series is last (-175% below average) in predicted reliability In the Used cars to avoid section, BMW 7 Series, with Audi A6, Jag S-Type, MB M-Class are declared as "REPEAT OFFENDERS" - modesl that have shown several years of much-worse-than-average overall reliability.

I suppose I'd be bitter and resentful also if my 2003 745iL had more reliability problems than a 1996 LS400 (statistical fact).

Some people just enjoy griping about their cars. They will buy an Audi and *****...then when the next updated model comes out, they buy another...go figure. I had a 5 series many years ago and granted, it was a fun driving car. Given reliability and a slight loss in road performance, I'll take reliability.

It is sad when adults have to rationalize their expense by dissing another car. I had a 740i and it was a service pig. It was nice to drive though. Each person needs to go through it once I guess.
