Default Questions on Tein CS Damper

I was looking to drop my car and a local company recommended me the tein type cs damper: http://www.tein.com/csdamp.html. I want to enhance the look of the car but I don't want to lose the ride quality. Does anyone have this on their car? Is the ride actually as good as the stock? I was also quoted $1700 installed. Is that a good price?

My car is 2004 LS430. I am also looking to get either 18 or 19 inch wheels stagger setup.

Thanks for any help.

Tein CS is probably the most comfortable coilover system availible. Many GS owners have them and swear by them for comfort. I am not sure of the price diff on the LS, but i know a member that got some CS's installed on a GS in Boston for 1450 brand new.

Do you know which shop offers that? The one I got the quote from is pfmodify.com in allston.

I also want to run the tein setup on my car but I need someone to do it first so i can be convinced to up that money. Spending over a thousand dollars on a coilover kit for a car that rides great is a little hard.

I already ordered 19 inch wheels from gs4will. I definitely will get TEIN CS but have more questions:

1. I measured: front is about 28.25 and back is about 27.75. When I lower the car, do I have to lower the front more than the back? Also the right front is a little bit higher than the front left, do I have to lower the right front a little more than the right left?

2. For those that have Tein CS on your cars. How much did you lower? What comfort setting do you have?

3. I want to lower the car a little to enhance the look but hope to maintain the comfortable ride as much as possible. How much should I lower and what comfort setting should I have?

4. Is it possible to adjust the height or comfort setting by ourselves or we have to bring the car back to the shop?

Thanks very much for your help.

I used to have the car height such that the top of the wheels are flush with the fender: no fender gap.
Currently raised a little and have 1 finger fender gap. Tein CS is OK, I have 20" rims and I believe they ruin the ride more than the Teins.

Comfrot settings: I have the EDFC. The setting on the CS on 0 vs. 16 is not much different, a little more bumpy (more road irregularities felt) on 16. I use 0 for bumpy roads, 6 / 4 F/R for daily driving, and 16 for carving turns. Still ... don't do anything stupid. The LS is a very heavy car, so don't expect the ride to be as sporty as M3.

Looks vs. comfort ? Just go for the looks all the way and drive carefully. AFAIK 1" different in ride height does not make a difference.

Height setting DIY ? Sure, just need a hydraulic jack and the special wrenches. Very easy, and so far mine does not stuck like the cheaper "pseudo" coilovers that my friends use on their rice cars. Tein is good stuff. Comfort setting ? Use the EDFC, it's the easiest. You can even change them on the fly, while driving, at the touch of a button.

Hope this helps.

Thanks to Steve (SupraTRD), I have TEIN CS now. I'll install it soon....

When measuring from the ground to the fender, these are the numbers I got and the numbers I think of lowering. The comfort setting will be 0.

Front Left 28.4
Front Right 28.5
Back Left 28
Back Right 28

Will Lower
Front Left -1.5
Front Right -1.6
Back Left -1.2
Back Right -1.2

Will be at
Front Left 26.9
Front Right 26.9
Back Left 26.8
Back Right 26.8

Anyone has any comments or any other recommendations?

Thanks in advance

I also got the wheels from Will (GS4Will). Will post pictures after installing Tein CS.

Mine is doing fine now. I lowered about 1.65 and about 1.3 in the back. Comfort settings are 2 in front and 0 in the back. With 19 inch wheels, the ride is still surprisingly good.

Beautiful! Are your tires staggered? I ended up going 19" as well but staggered. 245/40 on the front, 275/35 on the year. I run it on the A-bahn all day long and that change alone made a great improvement.

Yes, they are stagger and the same size as yours: 245/40 and 275/35.
