Default Voice Activated Nav?

In yesterdays Wall Street Journal, there was an LS430 ad that said "Voice Activated Navagation System". OK, I fess up...I never figured out how to use the voice activated system in my '04 LS because, frankly, I think it's overkill. However, am I missing something? Is the NAV really voice activated? Can I just say "Juniors Place" and it will route it (assuming it was preprogrammed, of course)? In other words, I thought only the radio and phone (which I don't use) was voice activated. Is there more to it?

There's a button on the left side of the steering wheel (above the phone buttom) which when pushed activates the voice system. A small microphone appears on the nav screen. Yes, you can say "go home" and it will load that route, assuming you've programmed it in. It can do others as well. I tend to agree its a bit overkill, but with practice, who knows.

You should have a Nav Manual which explains the verbal commands in details.

I've only played with it a couple times, but it would not recognize my voice, whereas it would recognize my (female) salesperson's voice during the initial vehicle delivery orientation. FWIW, people often say that I have the perfect deep broadcasting voice, so go figure. I tried it a few times afterward, but still couldn't get the thing to work, despite following the manual procedures. If anyone has the secret, please share. It'd be nice to have, but doing without so far hasn't spoiled my enthusiasm.

Default VOICE ACTIVATED

i have the 02 Ultra Lux LS 430 and my voice commands work great. the dvd cheat sheet, quick reference gives you a lot of commands that the Nav will recognize. i have to say that i was pretty impressed just to say Mexican or Italian food and low and behold, she repeated it the first time and up popped all the restaurants within a mile of the view on the Nav screen. i have nothing but good things to say about it.

the interesting part is to try saying other logical commands and listen to how the system interprets them and the results it gives. its entertainment on wheels.

Love My Lex.

The only time I use it is "home" and "cancel guidance". I find it easier to just press the buttons. I have an 01 and am getting an 04 shortly. I'm hoping the recognition quality has increased, but I'm not optimistic.

I found "screen off" much easier than pressing the buttons too.

Contact the people at www.streeteffectz.com for a video on navigation system. They are in NY, but could ship you a converter.
