Default Jerking Transmission

Hey forum, I was wondering if cleaning/changing my transmission gasket and filter plus a drain and fill would stop my transmission from jerking into gear. No codes btw

context: if my transmission is cold it’ll jerk pretty abruptly, if not cold it’ll have a little to no jerk. If I do some baby revs in neutral and put it into gear, it’ll still jerk a bit.

other than that. The car runs pretty good and I could drive 60 miles just cruising.

overall. I was just wondering if doing those precautions could eliminate the jerking or would if it’s the actual transmission itself that would need replacing (praying it isn’t) Thank you!

Does it jerk when slowing down, ie:downshifting from 3rd to 2nd, and 2nd to 1st?

Please whatever you do, DO NOT tell us how many miles are on it, the service/use history, or if the fluid has any known change history.

Obviously relevant details like that make it far too easy to help with advice, and we like the challenge.

OK - I can see you have little interest in professional or experienced advice; we’ll leave it there. If you do want some, square your question up and ping me.

There’s a sticky above labeled “MUST READ” and such. Give it a try.

Your trans is slipping and you need a new one I am assuming you have 150k and up on the trans.

All transmissions jerk a little when you go from Neutral to Drive (or Reverse) because you are going from an unloaded condition to a loaded condition. The RPM drops at the same time.
If your transmission drives fine otherwise, I would have the drive shaft donuts (37511-30020 COUPLING, FLEXIBLE) inspected as those can cause a more "violent" jerk than normal when they are dying.

I never thought about checking my drive shaft donuts but thank you so much for the info! I just don’t get how or why the car would jerk when cold rather than warm when it’s in neutral to drive/reverse If it’s just the drive shaft couplings?

If it doesn't do it when warm, then it probably isn't the donuts. Sorry, I missed that bit.

It varies could be today could be 2-3 years from now cars are weird its hard to predict unless tearing down the item, to get diffinitive answers. Just baby the car maybe add a transmission cooler. At that mileage and age I would not touch the transmission fluid or filter especially if its already acting up.
