Default Front Hood Struts

Has anyone replaced these recently and can make a recommendation? I changed mine about 8-9 years ago and they are failing now. I can't remember where I got them from at that time. There are so many available on Amazon -- I was hoping for a little guidance to get good ones.

I used Strongarm from Rockauto. I also used Monroe for the rear. I wouldn't go with any other brands personally. Found Strongarm the better of the two. Trunk and Hood are very heavy so make sure you prop well! I found out the hard way ! 🤕 Good luck!

I use random Amazon ones and they work fine. And yes the hood is damn heavy. I haven't replaced the trunks. Is the trunk supposed to pop open? It's cold right now so I just lift it up by hand but once it's up it stays up with the struts.

The trunk pops in mine, just a bit, then I have to lift it,and it stays up. It doesn't go up all the way on its own. Also heavy as a coffin. Car is pretty much all steel

Yes, on mine it just pops like half an inch, I lift it a bit, maybe like 70% then the gas struts take over and fully open.

I just ordered some Strongarm hood struts for my 430 the other day since the originals just flap around now. Don’t make the mistake I did removing one of the struts “just because” without a proper stick or vice grip in place to hold up the hood since once I removed one of the bad struts, the weight of the hood is really felt and it almost shut on me with full force!

I was actually very surprised on how heavy the hood is on these cars, even the trunk lid. This is before aluminum really made its presence in cars, and Lexus started to cut cost and go on a weight savings diet.

Compared to my 07 LS 460, the hoods are aluminum and is very light, I didn’t need any help installing the hood struts on that car when it failed. One arm was all that was needed. Lol.

I went with the Strong Arm hood struts about 7-8 years ago and they recently failed. After extensive and careful reading found out the distributor honored (somewhat) the “lifetime” warranty and only charged shipping to send out new, replacements. Swapped out the failed struts and the hood is now safe….
