Default Nav screen shutdown?

I have a problem in that the Nav screen on my LS is too bright at night and is distracting. On my SC I just close the cover and problem solved, but the LS doesnt have a cover. I usually end up putting a towel over it but then I cant see the temp and buttons.
How can it turn off the screen on the LS at night?

I'm not currently in front of my car screen, but if memory serves me right, If you push the "Options" button on the right side of the screen, there will be an tab for "Display settings" that will allow you to adjust the screen brightness and also will have a tab that turns the screen off.

You can then have the screen off unless you need the climate control or radio screens, which will then allow you to turn it on and off with the corresponding buttons. The screen won't come back into "always on" mode unless you hit "map" again.

keep in mind to adjust the nighttime mode brightness, you will need to turn the headlights on first in order to dim the screen.

Simple... from the main screen (when not on a phone page, etc.) press the talk button on the steering wheel and carefully say these words at the beep: "Display off". Or it might be "Screen off"... I do it so automatically that I forget which, To turn it on, press the upper right button (next to the Nav screen, not on it of course) used to repeat guidance or the show main map screen.

The spoken commands on the LS430 are great... esp. for 2001-2006 car. Short of accepting full street directions, they do a lot. Temperature, "north up", "heading up", "resume guidance", "suspend guidance", "delete all destinations" (cancels guidance), "gas stations", "poi off" (clears all POI icons on the map). Many more. "Go home" and "previous destination", and my favorite, "repeat guidance". They all work. "Display off" among them, but again I am unaware of how to turn back on without the button (single press, easy). Maybe "map mode" also restarts the display?
