I have an 02 LS 430 with the 18" chrome wheel option, 145k miles. Bought it at 54k. It recently cut out while driving on the freeway. It would crank, but wouldn't turn over to start. I had it towed home. A mobile mechanic troubleshot it, and said I needed to replace my camshaft position sensors. I called my local Lexus dealer, and they ordered me two VVT Solenoids (part no. 153400F010). Replaced the battery while I was at it. Mechanic replaced the solenoids, with no results. $500 down the drain. Had it towed to a local Toyota/ Lexus specialist shop, per his recommendation. These are their notes:

"Cranked motor and could tell by listening compression was missing on multiple cylinders. Removed the driver side upper timing cover enough to visually see timing belt.Spun crank by hand and and found while the crank is spinning the timing belt is not moving. Recommend replacing timing belt, water pump and components.

Note this is technically an interference engine so unknown engine damage is possible but have to start with timing belt to confirm"

The timing and drive belts were both replaced at 107k miles (38k miles ago), by my local Lexus dealer.

Between the mobile mechanic, having to have it towed everywhere, and the possibility of throwing more money at it just to find out something else is wrong, I think I'm ready to get rid of it. It hurts though, because it's the best car that I've ever owned.

Anybody have any advice? What would you do?
Please be kind and patient with me, and keep in mind, I know little to nothing about cars. I am doing what I'm told, and learning as I go.
