Hi Fellow LS owners:
I have a 2002 LS 430 and I would like to disable the tilt and telescopic motors so that the steering stays in one place since it has recently begun to behave a bit quirky . I know which fuse to remove. My question is what procedure should I follow to disable by removing the fuse once I have the steering wheel where I want it to remain? I assume that the car should be turned off, but once I turn off the car the steering retracts so if I remove the fuse with the steering retracted I will lose the adjustment. Hence my dilemma and uncertainty.
I think a better option would be to disable the automatic wheel retraction using the personalization options (either from the dealer, or by getting a tech stream cable and doing it yourself)
If you go the fuse route, and yours being a 2002, it shouldn't retract the wheel until you actually pull the key out of the ignition, even with the engine off?
Dear YoshimanThanks for sharing that. I hadn't thought of that actually. I will give that a try and get back to you.BTW, can you elaborate on tech stream cable route? I'm a bit of a newbie on that..
Have an excellent day!

FWIW, I asked a Lexus dealer to change a couple of settings (including the wheel retraction thing), they quoted me $325. As if. DIY Techstream is the way to go. You can buy hardware on eBay for like $30, get software for free online. Google - tons of resources out there. Good luck.

Thanks MickTheQI contacted a Lexus dealer who quoted $CAD87.00. I am still considering. I didn't think that was too bad ,but will look at software option also but it's not a strength for me

$325??? Ouch! Which dealer was that? They are ripping people off!

Herb Chambers Lexus near Boston. They overcharge by a factor of 3, except for ignition coil change ($350). . . . it would be more expensive for me to just buy coils from RockAuto.

Hi all, I decided to go with adjusting wheel manually and removing fuse since the tilt adjustment seems to have stopped working but thankfully with steering wheel in an acceptable position. With costs of a new motor or having to pay too much in labor costs I will settle for this for now. I'm really not too worried right now about retracting wheel as long as I can drive which is what this sweet old girl is all about for me. Thanks to everyone for their input . A picture of my baby is attached
I just disabled that feature last week using TechStream on an old laptop. Setting up the software on an old computer took me hours. Making the changes on the car took me 6 minutes. Cable is cheap and software is free, but you need to be on an old version of Windows.

Dear Olive TreeIt never hurts to know that another option is available. I'm a bit of a dinosaur when it comes to Tech but I will get one of my tech savvy sons to help.
Blessings to you and yours!
You can get Techstream working on Windows 10.
I have mine (version 12) running on a Win10 laptop.
If I remember it does require some Windows Registry tweaking and a driver install.
I disabled my Autoaway about 3 years ago.
