Default Trac error code 51 / problem in Engine Control System

Hello! I drive an LS400 from 94, and while driving today the check engine and "trac off" light came on. I took a wire and tried getting some error codes, none came up for the engine light, but error code 51 came up for the traction control which states "problem in Engine Control System". Seems a little vague to me. The car is really weak when I accelerate from standing still, idle is slightly uneven and low at 300-400 rpm. When letting of the gas too quickly the engine dies. I can also hear a ticking when I open the hood.

A couple of weeks ago I got the ECU changed, the car worked perfectly for a couple of weeks. So my question is, is it likely that this is an ECU problem, or should I look elsewhere? I also had the cambelt changed a while ago, is it possible it has skipped a tooth?

Sorry for your trouble. The code 51 is quite vague and the quickest way to troubleshoot would be to replace the ECU. Does the original ECU show the same symptom as now? If you are still keeping the original ECU, it would be an idea to swap but capacitors should be changed. A 94 is 27 years old and old enough to have failing QAS capacitors problem even not leaked and I'd say every old ECU is not OK any more to use without replacing them.

The old ECU is broken, doesn't work at all. Seems a little weird to me that the capacitors in the "new" ECU would break after only 2 weeks of driving. But I will open it up tonight and see if I can spot something obvious.

Would the timing belt skipping a tooth show this code and no engine code, only the light? It has happened once before and the car was running equally bad (maybe a bit worse), but I didn't check for codes that time, I let the workshop that did the job fix it.

Default the same problem

I have the same problem, did you manage to solve the problem?

Mam ten sam problem, czy udało Ci się go rozwiązać?
