Sub recommendations?? As you can see the sub literally exploded in this pic here. Just gonna go with another 8 inch and put it in the deck like the oem one.
If I recall correctly, it's not easy to remove the stock sub as it's welded in so you'll have to hacksaw/snip the ears (mounting points) of the stock sub in order to get it out. You can use another used stock sub to keep it stock if you can find one or get an aftermarket sub but pay attention to the sub's impedance to match the stock sub so the stock amp can drive it. Your other option for better sound at low frequency is to add an aftermarket sub with an enclosure & use an external amp to drive it. Leave the hole where the old stock sub was open & treat the trunk as an enclosure to let more bass into your cabin. This will give you a much better sound than the OG setup & this is the setup I have in my LS's. Btw, if you go this route, you may need to buy or use a pair of resistors to convert the stock sub's speaker high level input to low level before you feed the signal into the external sub-amp, however most sub-amps now these days can handle both low & high levels automatic or via a switch. If so, you can feed/connect the stock sub's speaker level wires right into the external amp. Good luck.
Ordered a 10 inch woofer, gonna build a mount and install in stock location. Will post pics when it gets here Even decided to give her a wash for the first time since December Seats weren’t too bad to remove.
Since the world has went ahead and went crazy my speakers are taking forever to get here, what I ended up doing was putting two book shelf speakers in just to get SOME thump until the sub arrives.
LOL

My experience replacing LS400 subs is a little different. There are a couple screws that are difficult to get to. And the new sub will likely have different locations for the mounting holes. Required some drilling but no metal cutting.

correct I’m going to be mounting from the bottom near the gas tank vs actual cabin
