Default Starter issues with 95 LS

My 95 LS400 starts and runs great. The problem that some times I turn the key and nothing happens at all. It is as if the battery is completely dead. After a while I can try again and it starts fine. The question is why no response. This only happens occasionly. What part should I look for to fix this?

Starter is going south. Can replace the plunger contacts in the starter but many will do the complete swap. This is a pretty involved job but DIY if motivated. Shop charge is $700-$1,100. You'll only get so many starts before it completely ceases, get is fixed ASAP.

If when you turn the key and if no noise when it does the problem, it could be an ignition switch going south. If it makes noise then its likely the solenoid going bad as in messed up and burned / corroded contacts in it. And to get to it is removing the starter.

The neutral safety switch is another item to consider when there is no noise.
