is there anyway to switch the odometer reading from kms to miles on a
1995 LS400. my father brought his car to the US several years ago and
switched the speedometer over to MPH (damn US DOT), but the odometer
still reads in kms.

Hi, it is my understanding that the odometer will change (as well as the temperature) if you change the body control module (I think it is also called MPX). Just find a wrecker with the same year LS400 and pull the MPX, which is located on the firewall in the cabin just above the steering column entry.
Be advised that it is likely that your security may not work now which may require some programming from Lexus.
I am in the process of doing the same myself and the information I just passed came from another forum member.

 

the mileage is hardcoded into the Cluster itself. only way i can think of is to buy a US-spec cluster and have a dealer program it to the right mileage, something unfortunately most will not do.
