Default 1999 ls400

Hi all: I recently bought a used 1999 LS400 with ~75K miles. The car seems to be ok except recently, the average miles (the value) in the digital mileage indicator is fluctuating all the time. Why is this happening? Is this a major problem? The car has been seeing continuous rain for a few days.

I appreciate your input. Thanks, NS

Excatly, average. The computer calculates your speed, distance and how you hit the gas pedal; gives you an average of MPG you're running. There's nothing wrong with your LS.

Thanks for your replies.

The fluctuation has now stopped but i see a new message "Tank average" that stays on when 1/4 gas remains. The tank avg is a very low value that I doubt it. Also, when I refilled the tank, the fluctutation starts with a crazy value (1 - 50 MPG). Is this a major problem? Is there a problem with the computer? I'd appreciate your input. Thanks

it needs to go through a decent amount before the value will stabilize.
