1sy gen modified airbox
well according to jbrady and some other guys that made their own airbox, I have finally got a spare from the junk and tried it on my own. I havent drived with it yet so i dont know about the power gain... But i did pop it in real quick and it's some what louder than stock... sorta sounds like a muscle car
but here are some picture for those that want to try it:
The plastic is so freaking hard that i needed to drill holes all around then cut through them with my picket knife saw.. hehe

persian, I have been out of town and just got your PM, I will respond here.
Yes, the plastic is VERY hard. I used a sawzall blade in a handle and sawed on mine for about 20 minutes. An air cutoff tool should be much quicker.
I am glad you made the hole larger than JTJerry did. Mine is actually larger with no curved area on the top left at all, just 2+ inches all around the edge of the air filter and of course keeping the snorkel inlet part of the housing intact as you did. Yours should be fine. Now, you need to create a heat shield to block off any air flow from the engine compartment. The larger the area the filter can draw air from the better but it must not be hot underhood air. JTJerry removed a couple of plugs in this area, one over the headlight wiring and the other next to the fender. I would recommend you do this. He also said he was able to draw air from around the side of the radiator area but I could not make out how he did so from the pictures he posted. The goal is to find as much cold air to feed the air box heat shield area as possible.
Did you drive it yet?
At present I have my mufflers back on and last night comming back from the store I went under a long bridge with the windows open and the car in first gear... full throttle... sounded REAL STRONG!!! Louder than it sounds from inside the car... a A LOT LOUDER!!!
