Question speedo needle for 1st gen ls400

I just sent my instrument cluster in to Mikado because the speedo needle is dead. They called and said it will be $300 just for the needle. This sounds a little high to me. Anyone have any insight on this or where to get a cheaper needle?

Did the needle stop moving or is the light on it dead?

The needle still moves, but the light is out. Mikado is ready to go ahead with the repair. They called last night and quoted me $250 installed, and they said they would ensure everything is working on the gauge cluster before shipping it back to me. I told them to go ahead and fix it. A cheaper needle would be nice, but I just don't have the time to wait around on this. I have so many projects going on with this car. Sometimes I wish I didn't love this car so much. I just can't give it up and unfortunately I am a perfectionist so everything has to be just right or it drives me nuts!

I hear that, I am the same way with my car (93 Pearl White LS). Sucks to be so ****. Especially on this kind of car, everyting cost 20x as much to fix and however the engine is awesome to surrounding components seem as if they always need attention. But guess that is all part of the fun

How many miles you got on your 93?

Well, my history with the first generation LS is pretty lenghty. I was introduced to the car by a good friend of mine who sold real estate. He had a 1992 Black Jade Pearl. One ride in his car and I was hooked. I began looking and came across a 1992 Black Jade Pearl with EVERY option that Lexus offered at the time. The car was being sold at one of those dealers that will only take 'the best of the best' kind of cars. The prior owner hardly ever drove the car as it was immaculate and flawless. The car was well maintained as all of the records were availablre to me. The prior owner only had it serviced at the dealer and I was shocked when I added up all the receipts and the maintenance bill totaled over $11,000. Not that there was ever anything wrong with the car, but each time he took it in to the dealer he spent quite a bit just on the routine maintenance. So I bought the car and never had a single problem with it. I let a friend of mine borrow it and he totaled the car.

I was so hooked on how great that car was that I just had to buy another one. I finally found a 1993 Black Jade Pearl with EVERY option just like my 1992 LS. I was basically trying to replace an irreplaceable car (my 1992 LS.) Since I have had the 93 I have put a good $8000 into it trying to get it perfect. I'm getting there. I still have a few bugs to work out, but each day I am getting closer. My gauge cluster was shipped from Mikado today along with my temp/clock display. It cost me $550 for both. I just want to get them back in the car and see how it looks now that they are fixed. Both of my seatbelts are broken so I am working on those too. Day by day and bit by bit I am getting there.

For the record, my '93 LS has 125K miles on it. I think Pearl white is the best color. Lexus wants $2200 to fix my traction actuator as they call it. The car still drives just no TRAC control. I can't afford toi have that fixed right now.
