1st gen LS400 temp gauge malfunction...
Mods and buddies, I searched 3 times and came up with nothing so here goes...
I have a 1991 LS400. One day while driving the temp needle pegged. Car wasn't and isn't hot....
Well, on a cold start, the needle almost sits in the red, then after driving, it pegs all the way past the "H." It of course, hasn't or isn't overheating but it seems that if the needle was sprung loaded the resistance has failed and and the gauge let loose.
Anyone else had this problem? I will probably just pick up a gauge cluster but my needles and everything else is perfect! Argh!
Thanks in advance,
Cory

Temperature sender unit or instrument cluster or electrical shorts somewhere in between. I would go with temperature sender unit route first. You might need to do some diagnostics to systematically isolate the fault before blindly replacing parts.
