90 Celsior tilt steering problem
The steering tilt doesn't work. It goes down and moves forward and backward just won't go up. If I push the pad up 9 or 10 times, it moves up. The contacts to the motor are fine. The tilt sensor was a bit worn out but I made it a bit better by cleaning the contacts.
I have noticed that whenever the battery is disconnected for 5-10 minutes, it will go up, but only does this one time. Like I've disconnected and reconnected the battery and pushed the button up, the steering will go up. If I push it again it will not go up. Just the one time. On auto tilt it will also come down, otherwise it just moves forward and backward.
Could this be due to a faulty ecu?

I checked the switch and its fine. I fixed the gear for the tilt as it wasn't going down, added a spacer and it moves down like it should. The motor and the connections from the switch to it are good.

mine has similar problem but with telescopic and not tilt. every time I unplug main battery for a few minutes and plug it back. steering wheel would automatically goes away from dashboard, then I could adjust it. but whenever I adjust the wheel to most far end (closet to dashboard and no longer closer), telescopic function stops working.
it could be ECU, position sensors but I cant figure out how to fix it. hope some can help.

It is a good theme for a guy who studies to be an EE. Did you check the current going through the motor?

The important first step is to distinguish what is causing the problem. The switch, the logic circuit, the cables or the motor itself. Measuring the current is one of those ways to distinguish quickly.

I did not check the current going to the motor. What I don't understand is why would the steering go up after pushing the button 10 times. It is a hidden feature, I know, but why then?

I had similar problem - my steering wheel couldn't make the whole way without making a few stops.
In my case, it was the limit switch - it is the white little box on the right side of steering column that is moving when steering wheel is going up and down. Please try to clean it and it could might help.
