Default what wrenches/sockets for LS400?

a friend asked me for a complete list of what head sizes the fasteners are on LS400 (he is buying individual wrenches on a deal)

I said 10mm, 12mm, 14mm, 17mm, 19mm and at that point I started thinking hmmm, I have used several other sizes, smaller and larger, but I forget the exact sizes, so can we all get together and make a definitive list?

battery terminals are 10mm on LS400 (and almost every Japanese car ever made)

8mm are needed, as are 21 and 22mm.

the rest depends how far he needs to break the car down.

13, 15, 18mm

Honestly, 8-22mm.... Not really smart leaving out random wrenches.

The suspension...
I seem to recall 13s on the strut mounts, and rear seatbelt anchors, 15s on the rear shock bolts and 18s on the swaybar links.
I also remember a few 13s on the engine when doing the timing belt, but tbh, that was a while ago and there are many numbers dancing around in my head right now....

The 10-16mm are the reach for's for the common DIY I take on. I double up on those WRT the wrenches and sockets. Having the range is useful depending how much wrenching they will do.

we are straying from the original post, I am trying to compile a list of all fastener sizes on LS400, not every size wrench that is handy to have - lol

and I still think the 13, 15, and 18mm is bogus, can anyone corroborate that?

you have a garage and some tools. thinking back i'm almost positive the shock top mount nuts are 13 or 15mm.

If you have a California spec car with the air injection system, you will need a 31 and 32mm wrench to remove the annoying air injection pipes coming off the air pump under the intake manifold.

Just buy a decent set - much cheaper than buying individual sockets. I'm still using the same 7-19mm set I bought in 1971 and have bought a few more larger sockets individually (up to 27mm) and a variety of socket extentions over the years.

I am pretty sure the rear strut mounts nuts are 13s, but I'm not pulling my seats just to check.

It likely also depends on if you have OEM or aftermarket parts.
If that is the case, and everything on the car is OEM, then 13s and 15s probably become far less common. Lots of parts come with new hardware and that could be where the 13s and 15s come in. There certainly are a lot more 10s, 12s and 14s on the commonly touched parts, thats for sure.

If you never plan to use aftermarket parts and only ever stick with OEM, you might not ever use a 13 or 15 for basic DIY stuff.
Does that mean I would leave them out to save a few bucks?? hell, no!

Why would you buy wrenches by piece? It was cheaper to buy my 15pc Snapon Flanks than buying 10 wrenches on their own...
Plus you cannot double wrench properly without the next size up wrench.
