Default 1997 LS400 Camshaft Position Sensor Problem

Hi there,

Last weekend I did my timing belt and water pump. I had trouble removing and reinstalling the right bank camshaft position sensor due to clearance problems with the Aisin water pump.

I must have damaged it because I got the code on startup. The car is running great but I want to replace it to get the codes clear.

1. Do I need to pull the timing belt again?
2. The car is running beautifully now but will it fail if that sensor is sending junk info to the computer?
3. How do you get that sucker in and out without busting it if the water pump is in the way?

Harness looks good... I think I bent the actual sensor pulling it out and putting it in. There was no clearance when I removed it and reinstalled it. I had to really put lots of pressure on it to get it in and out.
