I understand that there are few varieties of stereos in our beloved cars. My car is a -93 LS400 and the stereo looks like this. I've also cot a CD changer in the trunk.
What stereo do I have, and are the door speaker powered by the head unit or a separate amp?
You have the standard left hand drive LS400 audio system for Europe. I am not certain how many different audio systems were installed for different world markets in the 1993 LS400 but I know of at least six different audio systems.

Thank you very much. I take it this means that the head unit itselfs drives the door speakers, so I can replace it with another stereo? (the subwoofer however is a different story). Do I guess right?

That is the way it works on the 93-94 LS400 sold in North America. You might get more accurate information about your car by asking on http://euro.lexusownersclub.com/
For me, it shows the name of the selected radio station from the RDS info.
And if the station shown in the window has multiple transmitters on different frequencies, pressing the NF/Network Follow button causes the radio to switch to the transmitter/frequency with the strongest signal.
So, in theory a person could drive all over the UK listening to BBC Radio 4 without having to search for the frequency of the nearest BBC Radio 4 transmitter.
Does this type of Euro-radio come in the Nakamichi version?
There was no Nakamichi for Europe. My 1993 LS400 owners manual for the UK and Europe shows four different head units. RHD with CD, RHD w/o CD, LHD with CD, LHD w/o CD.
