Default Catalytic converters

Adult supervision required please. There was a recent thread about catalytic converters that had a link for a supplier of well priced cats. I thought I bookmarked it and I did not. Nor can I find the thread. My 98 needs one and I don't want to pay for another OEM cat. Thanks in advance.

I bought two from Rock Auto a year (20K miles) ago and they work fine.

EASTERN CATALYTIC Part # 40528 and 40529.

They cost about $165 each. OEM lasted 310K miles. These, we will see.

Only catalytic converter i've had to buy was one for my 87' Toyota Cressida i used to have. I bought a $100 one from the local auto parts store, and it bolted right in, looked identical to the factory one, and actually worked very well for the 6 years i owned the car. There's no way i would shell out however many thousands the dealer wants for them

The trick with buying catalytic converters is to make sure that they are certified to work in California. This means, that there is enough precious metals. The really cheap catalytic converters won't last because of the lack of precious metals inside.

Just for grins, i just priced the OEM converters that fit the 94 - 97 models, which run in at $1385.52 APIECE, and there are two of them. And this is discounted online prices too

Yes, they are. They should be fine too as long as you don't scrape the bottom of the barrel as far as pricing goes. Like I said, the $100 one i had worked very well, as far as the E-test went

aftermarket cats generally don't work as well or last nearly as long as the stock cats. OEM LS400 cats are metal substrate and flow EXTREMELY well.

What would be the preferred brand that will pass Cali regs? If anyone has experience with lomgevity over 20k referenced would be helpful too.
