Default catalytic converter expensive??

long story short, wife ran over bunch of rocks! and busted up the catalytic converter, cushed pipes and busted the O2 sensor as well. dealer said parts a lone was about $1900, labor and tax out the door is roughly $3000. any other options?!?! btw its an 06 gs300, sounds like something i can just order parts for and do it myself. anybody else ever had to replace the catalytic converter???

Never had to replace one but coming into this thread I knew it was going to be very expensive.

based on your description i am assuming that you damaged the secondary cats (the primary cats are upstream) and not the primaries.

aside from going the OEM (pricey) route; you have the following more economical options:

1). replace the damaged secondary cats with Magnaflow straight flow cats.
2). replace the 02 sensor with Bosch generic sensor.
3). save up for the the upcoming INVIDIA mid pipes. you will still have to replace the broken 02 sensor. mid pipes will delete the cats, and resonator.

Yeah seriously I would just go aftermarket and take it as an opportunity/excuse to mod the car.

wow.. must have been some big rocks.. hope no one got hurt.. nothing to add here, but i hear that you need a special tool to put on the sensor.. i replaced cats on my two previous cars, but not too familiar with this gs since no performance cats are available.. your insurance won't cover this?

file a claim man. Don't pay for that out of pocket. Thats what insurance is for. Don't be mad at the wife. These things happen and can be fixed

That all depends on your insurance deductable ($500 or $1000.)...one can definitely get this fixed going the aftermarket route for LESS than $500.
