MY MECHANIC TOLD ME THE HEAD IS WARP IN MY 1ST GEN LS 400.I JUST BOUGHT ALL THOSE NEW PARTS MEGAN COILOVERS,RADIATOR ,FAN CLUTCH,SPARK PLUG WIRES ,RADIATOR CAP,REAR WINDSHIELD AND A FEW OTHER PARTS. IT HURTS ME TO SEE HER GO BUT I HAVE TO MOVE ON.WILL ALL THESE PART FIT A 98,99,2000 LS 400? I HOPE THEY WILL.
Sorry to hear, are there other issues besides the head that are $$.
The suspension will work, possibly the reservoir cap but the rest probably not on the 98+. The 95-97 will probably allow a few more like the wires and radiator. The rear window, no.
Just Fix the head. Im sure you could get a new used motor for the LS400 for cheap. Much cheaper than buying a whole new car and dealing with new headaches that comes with buy a new used car.
used LS400 motors tend to sell for ~$400-700 so a swap isn't out of the question.
that being said it's VERY rare for these cars to overheat (as that's pretty much the only way to warp the head...since it's an all aluminum motor.) so I would get a second opinion.
pull a part heads are $50.....get one. make sure to get the cams, and matching caps as well. im with him too^ get a second opinion. what are the symptoms?
why was it initially in the shop. is the mechanic teling to that because its something he doesnt wanna fool with? most average joe mechanics look at lexus, mercedes, bmw, and audi to be too much of a hassle to work on, simply because they dont have the comprehension.
some also see luxury car, and think "luxury" pockets. whats your mech. labor rate? what does toyota call for a head gasket single bank job? (basically the same thing" if he charges $110 an hour, and its only a 3.5 hour job, then your not looking at more than $385. $50 head and $40 head gasket......$465, $500 at most, if you supply him with the head. if not, tell him to get ****, hes trying to take you.
