Why?
I have two pet peeves about my 1992. Why is there an option to turn off the auto-tilt away and also an option to turn off the remote entry? Isn't this a waste of space and wires? Why would you ever turn them off? I notice they removed these options in 1995. Can anyone enlighten me as to why they gave Lexus owners that choice?

I believe CBEST was introduced in 1995, you can turn off those functions through the CBEST pad at the dealer.
Thats one of the great things about the Lexus, you can tailor it completely to what you like, you can alter just about everything.

Wow for the remote entry, they say that it is better to turn them off when you have to leave your car somewhere for a long period of time....I heard it saves the battery (I don't know how). And as for an auto-tilt I have no idea why!!

I think FAT person need the auto-tilt feature
And if U are skinny, then you have a choice to turn it off and then when gain a lot of weight during the course owning your LS, then U can turn the auto-tilt on
Just my 2 cents.
As far as the remote on off:
When U lost both of your key and U got only the valet key left then U better turn off the remote entry so the person who has your keys can't drive away your LS. What Do U think

Turning the auto-tilt off allows you to work on the steering column and dash cluster more easily.
As for the remote off switch, that thing always used to annoy me cause I'd get out of my car and bump it with my knee or something and when I try to lock the car it's like why won't you lock then it's like oh, stupid switch.

I second FusionMan reason for auto-tilt switch.
Remote on/off switch is indispensible when you have dual alarm - manufacture & aftermarket. Can't have the manufacture's remote lock/unlock while the aftermarket alarm is armed without doing some serious rewiring.

Mine are both off
Mine are both off. Here's why: I don't have any need for the tilt away steering. Perhaps it is because I only weigh 130 lbs. sopping wet. But my legs are long, so I keep my seat all the way back. In other words, I have plenty of room, and I don't need the steering wheel to move out of my way. So I don't want to put any unnecessary wear and tear on the adjusting motors. I don't need something else to break. And if it does stop working, I'd rather it be in my favorite driving position. Besides, I don't want to wait for the steering column every time I get into the car.
The remote is off because I bought my LS400 as a used car, and I never got a remote key for it -- just the mechanical key.
Personally, I'm glad Lexus let me turn this stuff off. Now if I could only find the switch to shut off my ex!

The option to turn the remote entry off is to save your battery I believe. My remote entry didn't work when I bought mine, although it didn't matter since I put an aftermarket alarm in. Auto-Tilt....I like! It looks great paired up with my auto HU faceplate.
