Default "COLD FOR DISK" - message display on NAV start

Have a 1999 LS 400 with 306,000 miles -

Started the car this morning and the navigation displays COLD FOR DISK at the initital start up after pushing the "I agree" on the nav display.

Nav will not display road information - stays stuck on initial screen. All other features (radio, climate control ect) work.

Anyone seen this before? Any ideas?

Thank you

What a weird error. Sounds like the hard drive with the NAV maps failed. Does your manual give you any kind of hard reset options to try?

Did find this:

"While pressing "CLIMATE" and "AUDIO" switches simultaneously, by turning the light control switch to OFF, TAIL, OFF, TAIL and OFF the system is started-up." It takes approxmilately 30 seconds to inspect the screen."

OK, the English in the above instruction is a little odd but that is what it says in the manual. I can't even begin to scan all the pages that show all the diagnostic screens.

honestly, I'm not surprised if the nav hard disk probably gave up the ghost after so long. I wouldn't bother trying to fix it since the system is so antiquated. Either spend the big $$$ to get an aftermarket nav put in and working with the stock speakers, or buy a used non-nav climate control and non-nakamichi headunit. they will bolt right in and use the factory plugs.

Default Update

For reasons only known to the LS 400 gods the Nav is working again

I did not employ any well known tricks, restarts or pixie dust - just happy to have it working again
