possible, would be the first place to look for sure if you've never cleaned up the harness in that area.

Do you mean the HVAC controller?: http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/audio/headunit.html

The HVAC controler is attached to the same frame as the radio head unit - easy to separate once you pull the whole thing out of the center stack.

Wow! If the trunk hinge wires have never broken that would be amazing in a 20 year old LS400. The ones in my 90 LS starting breaking at around 13 years.

so i unwrapped the tape and inspected the wires on the drivers side trunk hinge...i dont see any problem with any of the wires..none of the casings are split..but the way the wires are routed they are bent in a few areas..are those the problematic areas? and do i need to test with a ohm meter or are the problems u guys have pretty straight forward..meaning..are the wires visibly broken when the tape is unwrapped.

From my experience, the insulation is usually not broken even when the wire core is completely separated. A wire with a broken core will bend easier at the point of the break - grab each wire with both hands and do some wiggling ... of the wire.

Is it possible that the LCD display is just going bad? That is a common issue with these cars.
