Default Thinking of making a come back

What's up fellas.... I sold my 2nd gen gs300 last year at 200k after starting to have tranny problems. This was all after I bought wheels and ordered suspension any ways I found a good deal on a baroque red mettalic 99 ls400, all maintience is up to date and the car is exceptionally clean. It has 120k the owner is asking 6k and he's negotiable. I've always loved the ls400 over the gs. Few questions

Have any of you guys owned both cars and what do you think in comparisant?
Not my first choice in color... Is this a rear color? ( tan interior)
I haven't seen any Baroque red mettalic VIP themed Ucf 20/21 can you guys post some pics for inspiration.
Did ucf21 come with air bags? Shock and spring ?
Any other info and maybe things to look out for can help thanks

i own a ls400 right now and used to drive an '03 lexus gs300 sportdesign blk/blk. i actually think the ls400 is an upgrade from the gs300. first off, was of course the power difference. not only that, but the ls400 had less problems overall compared to the gs. i like the automatic reverse tilt mirrors and also the woodgrain wheel that comes standard in the '99 & '00 ls400's (i don't have it though since mine was a '98 and previous owner didn't want that). the stock sound system sounds alot better than the gs300 as well (weird because the stock sub on the ls400 is only 8" but the gs is 10").

i also know a few members on here who have switched from a 2gs to a 98-00 ls400 and most of them liked the switch.

as for that color, i never really heard of that color for the 2LS. but here's a red LS400 for reference..

i haven't owned a GS but i do have an IS which is semi-similar. i've driven and worked on a few GSs and i can definitely say an LS is a step up above the two (and my LS is older). price-wise it is slightly cheaper, much faster, has less problems as mentioned already, and is more luxurious. red is a great color, but i agree with the blandness of the tan interior.

just for a point of reference, the v8 in the LS does the same if not better gas mileage than the inline-6 motors in the IS and GS (unless you have the 400, same motor). the aftermarket support on the LS is great, you just need to import it all from overseas .

120K at $6,000, that sounds awesome expecially for a 99. Now-a-days I can't find anything good in the $5000 range.

here's some info about the 99 and that color

I have a Baroque Red 99'. It wasn't my first choice in color but it grew on me fast. It has the black interior so helped me get over it. At night it just looks dark and is hard to tell what color it really is. I think it may be the rarest of the 'UCF21' color combos. I have seen more with the tan interior than black though but very few overall. I'm making quick progress on mine...

Yea I'm going take a look at it this weekend. Is there anything I should look for? Common problems with this car? Are they all on oem air suspension or do some have shock and spring?

-Havent owned both but have driven a fair few 2GS, the LS of the same year is simply better built, and everything feels better to touch. it's a nicer place to be.
-not a SUPER rare color, but not nearly as common as black/silver/white. as far as i know
-look at jeebus and vancityLS4's cars, Jeebus is aftermarket paint+color, but it's red enough
-factory air was available in '98-00 but much rarer as the earlier gen cars air had started becoming unreliable. generally you want to avoid or be ready to convert.
-search+FAQ

Addendum: there were a couple single year, year 2000 only colors: burnished gold metallic (4p2), Crystal White (062), and Millenium Silver Metallic (1C0). also '97 also had a single year color, Opal White Pearl (046). after those, Antique Sterling Metallic (941), Blackberry Pearl (929), Deep Jewel Green Pearl (6P3), and Mystic Gold metallic (4P7) were the next most rare. The Deep Blues were also somewhat rare for the 2nd gen cars.

Had to chance to look at the car today. It wasn't what I expected at all... Car was not as clean as the owner described or the pics he sent. Needed many things for example timing belt water pump, broken telescopic wheel, valve cover gasket, new tires etc... Really was looking to just get into something and drive. I know no used car is perfect but this one just needed more than I wanted to deal with. Great for someone who has time to give it tlc.

I'll counting to keep an eye out for another ls hopefully I can find one that I like... I have also been toying with the idea of a 430. Thanks again for all the help guys

Consider offering less the cost of the T/B W/P. I would prefer that I know it was done rather than the owner shows me paperwork.
