Default Dreaded O/D off, and dead speedo

I've spent hours searching and troubleshooting and I haven't found a solid answer for this. A lot of threads of people having the same symptoms but I haven't found a whole lot of answers. Basically my O/D Off light is flashing, speedo doesn't work, neither does trip nor odometer. Checked the transmission codes and I'm getting a code 42 which is #1 speed sensor. Which is exactly is the #1 speed sensor? I replaced the sensor on the passenger side rear of the transmission and it solved nothing. Did I need to replace the ones on the side of transmission instead? Any help would be appreciated. This is driving me nuts!

In my '93 manual it shows the #1 speed sensor has the speedometer driven gear on it. So if the sensor you changed didn't have the gear, then you changed the wrong one. I can't tell the location of either sensor (L or R) but the only difference in instructions is the #1 says "remove the transmission control rod rear side set nut" and "remove gear from sensor"
Hope that helps ya out.

In that case I replaced the right one, and still nothing.

Took the test light to the speedo plug and it's getting power. Maybe just another bummed speedo sensor.

Read that it could be a possible problem with the ECU itself.

one question when did it start going and what were the conditions outside? because my speedo sensor is on and off, but it seems like when there is moisture, the sensor doesn't work and i think that maybe there could be a little moisture in the sensors connection causing it not too work but the whole other thing on the dash i don't know.

I'm not sure, I bought the car like it is. I've replaced the cluster and speed sensor to no avail.
