According to lexls.com (http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/audio/subwoofer.html) the Kicker Comp 03C84 should work. You can buy it here: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0002DFK3C/...SIN=B0002DFK3C and it cost $53

Another option is DLSOA8 (http://www.dls.se/en/car/prod.html?produkt=en_120) but then you have to change out your original sub amplifier to one that have the power to drive the subwoofer.

The subwoofer should be made for open air, free air or infinite baffle (same thing just different names), and if you want to maintain your original sub amplifier it should have a impedance on 2 Ohm and have a RMS value around 50W. And finding a subwoofer like that is really hard.

Do you have the Pioneer or Nakamichi system in your car? Someone with a 1998-2000 LS400 (UFC21) have to confirm this but I do think that the subwoofer size for a UFC21 LS400 is 8 inch, at least for the pioneer system (according to crutchfield.com the subwoofer size is 8 inch for both systems). If thats correct then the kicker sub should work fine.

ur not going to get any bass from whatever little 8 inch sub u stick in the back...trust me on this i have 2 5.25 jl audio speakers in the front doors and 2 in the rear doors,2 6x9 jl's in the rear deck and i put a 8 inch sub in the hole and it sucked,so i put a 12 inch boxed kicker in the trunk and my system came to life. i have the sub just sitting back there and its not being used.

is it blown/dead and does not measure anything or does it crackle and scratch? after nearly 20 years the foam surround is gone and you can refoam it for 5US$ or less. you can do by yourselfes. i just did it on my 8" and its nice and original again. :-)

1998-2000 still use 8" sub. The kicker sub will fit but OEM amp dont have enough power to push it. You wont ever know you have a sub. My opinion will be, follow "p.hase" idea to fix OEM sub, or get a small amp to push the kicker sub mounted on OEM sub location, and last build an enclosure hook the amp in the trunk and leave the sub hole open for the bass to flow in to the cabin(if you go with the third option you may wanna get big sub like 12").

the original pioneer 8" woofer is a very good and for that time innovative speaker component: a lightwight but very stiff cone with bracings. its fast and goes fairly deep after some run-in time. it features a large voice coil gap that allows long travel and has in combination with the cooling vent in the pole plate a low power compression for long term high volume. a treated dust cap, lightweight and very stiff. best of all the voice coil carrier is made of epoxy that can occasionly hit the pole plate due to overpowering without any damage (doesnt bend like aluminium). its about 1,5" voice coild diameter so 50-100W power is trustworthy. its really worth refoaming it for 5 dollars and about one hour of work (splitted).

the only downpoint in the system is the must have of an amp with high damping factor at low ohms. its very hard for any amp to drive a 2 ohm speaker (stupid) and it runs into distorsion very quick (about 11 o clock at the volume **** the sound system is out of its undistorted range to my opinion). i know only half a hand full of professional amps that can drive 2 ohm speakers (1,5 ohm voice coil DC) with high damping factor.

Be careful with that sub. If I remember correctly the OEM amp is only stable at 8ohms. Thats a 4ohm sub. You might end up blowing up the amp.
Do some research on the amps specs.

you dont remeber correctly. its a 2 ohm amp. anything above, 4 or 8 ohm is -3dB or -6dB lower in volume which means you have to crank the bass eq to follow up the rest of the sound system and by doing this you boost + blow the 4 small midbass speakers in the doors. you must come as close to 2 ohms and you can only either refoam the original speaker or buy a 4+4 ohm woofer and wire in parallel.

I replaced my 2 ohm pioneer sub with 4 ohm nakamichi but the volume is too low. I guess I need to add another 4 ohm coil to the circuit to make it work? Any ideas?
