Lights dim for a sec when brakes are applied and then back to normal
Hi CL,
Whenever I apply my brakes, my lights dim for a second and then quickly go back to normal. It happens every time, no matter what.
I researched it a little and it seems as though I might have a bad ground connection wire.
Anything else anyone can recommend? Its kind of an annoying problem.
Thank you

Hi,
If you have a pre October 1994 LS400 check the trunk hinge wiring loom for broken wires, other possibles are a battery on its way out or alternator problems or as you suggest a poor earth/ground connection.

I have the same problem. Just a very slight dimming when pressing on the brakes for a split second and then back to normal.
I'll check out the trunk. Thanks for the info, as always!

I had my alternator replaced last summer after a little bit of power steering fluid dripped on it. It seemed fine but I was going on a road trip and didn't want to risk it. So yeah, new alternator.

I am also having this issue in my 91 but it got to the point were a couple of time it actually cut out my my radio, put a new alt in it and it still happens but no were near the extreme that I was gitting prior to the change. My next thought on the matter was to put some kind of an aftermarket ground plate and system in the car to see if that helped stablize the whole thing.

I know that when I did my timing belt 2 months ago that there was PS fluid on the alternator then. I cleaned it off as best as I could but I am going to have to address the PS leak some time in the future.

ye there is quite a big leak from that system if I put fluid in it is out within a couple days and I have tried the lucas ps fix and that helped quiet my pump but it still leaks and I work for a parts store so if this one kicks then I can just get another pretty quickly. What is a common leaking point for this system as everyone seams to have ps fluid on there alternator

Lucas fix isn't going to work on the high pressure hose.
GillaG: cleaning the fluid off the alternator won't do. The fluid gets inside the alt. If it's there already you're gonna need a new one soon. (after you fix the PS leak)
