will my 1990 ls400 ksport coilovers work on 95-00 ls400's?

 

Many of the aftermarket UCF1X coil systems will fit into the UCF 2X. When looking at the ads in the VIP rags, those often they shared the same part #. As for this particular model...maybe PD has some insight.

no idea since i dont know how ksport did their development but:
coilovers made for the UCF1x will fit the UCF2x BUT coilovers made for the UCF2x (like tein CS-T) will not work properly on UCF1x due to increased piston length.

it should, but as a warning UCF1x systems in UCF2x chassis will generally not ever let you get near stock height again.

 

I'm afraid my bcr coils are an exception pd, as I was told by the vendor they were made for the 20 originally.

So no matter what UCF10 or UCF20 (pre 99?) all fit. But if it was made FOR the UCF20 it's going to go lower since the struts are literally shorter.

 

i didnt have a lot of time with the BCR but when i compared them to a set of megans they seem to be teh same measurements, which leads me to believe they were actually made and test fitted on a UCF10, not 20. i'm actually pretty sure of this.

you've got it a bit backwards. '20 struts on a 10 will sit higher and out of optimal travel range, hence '10s can't use '20 coilovers (basically, Tein CS-Ts) without blowing them in a relatively short period of time. Also this is why you can't use '20 struts (Kyb or Bilstein) on the '10.

'10 coils on a '20 will not allow you to get as high as they would on a '10, but will otherwise work fine because the dampers are working well within their specified stroke.

the oem air struts have been rumored to be an exception to this rule, as the overall length/stroke differences between the generations is far less drastic, but i haven't personally confirmed this.

So in essence, it would actually seem to be better to use ucf1x coilovers on a ucf2x assuming the above is correct. It would allow you to go lower and still be within the travel range. I am looking for a negative, how many CL members have coilovers on their cars at stock height?

 

the JIC, Megan, KSport, and i believe BC-R are all coils made for 1st gen cars that work well on second gen.

does anyone know how much shorter the 10's are compared to a 20?

 

When I compared the original Tein CS for the UCF2X and 1X struts, the complete assembly is ball park 2.50" longer.
