Your only gaining 10mm. and a slightly higher ride height. What is the width of the wheel?

I've never driven an LS but...I think they will RUB when turning?? The car manufacturers pretty much specify cars to be driven with the original size tires because they work best. My friend owned a aftermarket parts car shop and he told me all the time he would have people returning tires after 500 miles for all sorts of complaints, because the tire size was wrong. inching up your wheels is one thing but going wide w/o new wheels i think is harder to make work. if done right you might have better ride and stability if done wrong you will just eat more gas trying to steer your car. i hope whatever you do works though.

I am running Bridgestone Turanza LS-Hs size 235/60/16s on my '97 LS400.....they don't rub, but they are a bit taller than I would have liked. They look ok, but the sidewalls *are* tall.

While you can get away with running a taller 235/60, my advice is to stick with the stock 225s.

FWIW, I am very happy with the Turanza LS-Hs after approx 700 miles, they're a good tire for the LS400 ----smooth, predictable, and quiet. Wet traction is excellent as well. I paid $550 installed for the tires.

Good Luck,

Nothing is going to change except the width of the tire, also thicker tire wall. Maybe you should consider upgrade your wheels to 17 or 18 with 8 or 8.5 in width. It'll look so much better. 235-60 tire size is like an SUV tire.

I just put 4 new tires on my car and ask that same question to the tech.

This are is comments, "You do not want to change the width of the stock tire on a Lexus. If you do it might effect the toe or camber on the car causing it to pull or no longer drive stright."

Wether or not it's true I stuck to the Original size. My begist pet pive is that the steering wheel needs to be centered and that the car drive perfectly straight. Anything that could mess with that I want no part of. On all my previous cars I always put wider tires even if was just the next size up. Well now we all bought Lexus because we want that smooth straight ride. Dont screw with it.

If you changed the rims and the tires you should be OK, but I do not reccomende just increasing the tire width.

Also because of the wider tread you will hurt you fuel efficeincy a bit and lower your top speed because of extra drag. I know these are minor issues but how much better conering grip are you going to get from the extra 10mm?

Once again just my $.02

Default OK

OK thanks for all the replies. I have summer rims which are arelli vetta 16's. I know they are kind of small but i purchased them used really really cheap from my friend in mint condition.
The reason I asked about size was that I am getting the employee discount from the Dunlop plant in buffalo. I am going to get a set of SP Sport A2's.
I think I will stick with the stock tire size. The original owner put a set of goodyears on it right before i bought the car and they were very loud. I have a set of dunlop sp4000 on the car now and they are much quieter. My dad has a set of SP5000 on his mustang and they are also quieter than the goodyears that he had before.

Thanks for the info.

I put 255/45 R17's on my 97 LS400 and don't have a single problem with rubbing or steering/toe-in, etc.

The rest is just hearsay and guess work.
