I have close to no knowledge of cars in general. The 91 LS400 is my first car, and I am very thankful for owning it. The problem is when I am accelerating/decelerating or turning (not sure) something sounds like it is grinding, it just happened while I was driving home today, so I will drive it around tomorrow and see when exactly it starts to have a grinding noise. Sorry for being so ignorant on the cars. Also, does anyone have any advice on a good way to start learning about cars?

 

I have a similar issue in that when I accelerate I can hear suspension sound in the front wheels. When I go quicker, the sounds changes with the speed of the wheels, is that what you have as well?
I will be sure to update this once I have my problem diagnosed, I hope it is cheap fix for both for us.

 

Im just throwing this out there, but is it possible you are driving with your E-Brake on?

 

No, I mean I may be ignorant, but not that much xD. I will drive it around tomorrow and see how it works... I have a feeling it may have something to do with the power steering.

 

Does it sound like a creaking or cracking like metal going clank clank or something?

 

Definitely more of a creak.

 

did you check the PS fluid if you think its steering related...?

You have your owners manual? If you do then read it..

 

check all the lugnuts and make sure they are tight. the day i bought my ls, the front left wheel made a creaking sound. i was like wtf as it was perfect when i drove it a few days before. pulled the center cap and the lugnuts were loose. so i tightened them and checked all 3 other wheels. never made another sound.

 

Nah, there is a leak from under the power steering. The noise is made when I am making right turns turning the steering wheel more than one revolution. I am taking it to a mechanic tomorrow. Hopefully it is not an expensive fix....

Oh wow. I really hope none of it leaked into the alternator... and my car has 170,xxx miles on it so it may be time to replace it... I hope its not too expensive of a repair.

 

Yea im thinkin you're low on ps fluid. Try to refill that and see if it helps a bit.

I believe it is your steering rack n pinion making that sound.
