When the headlights are set to automatic on my 98 there is no delay. They switch on everytime I go under an overpass, it is instantanious. Is there any way to implement a delay?

 

its not a delay issue, it's a sensitivity issue. Check the sensor located near the front of the dashboard mid left. looks like a small grey ****. you can push it down and turn it clockwise/counterclockwise to adjust its sensitivity.

 

PD, does turning the "small grey ****" really work to change the sensitivity? The CBES/LPS doc says that there are five settings (Light control ... sensitivity) that can be selected using a scantool and appropriate program card -- see attached.

 

I never found a little ****, I have two bubble type things on both sides of the dash.

 

well since the OP didnt specific a Year in his post i made the assumption he had an '89-97. for hte 98-00 the photosensors are not adjustable without a dealership's scanner.

I was mistaken, my headlights weren't in automatic, they were just on. My interior lights would go bright to dim when getting blocked by any amount of light (the headlights obviously stayed on).

I set my headlights back to auto and everything is fine again.

Sorry about that, I replaced my license plate lights with white LEDs and wanted to see what it looked like, I forgot to switch it back to auto when I was done.

 

Ok, so I have ran my headlights in automatic the past few days and my interior lights still change bright to dim, dim to bright everytime I go under a shadow. The actual headlights don't switch. I also find it odd that my headlights are on when I'm driving, there should be enough light outside.

 

Are you saying that your low beam headlights are on all the time during the day when the switch is on the "Auto" setting? Or do you mean the DRL (high beams only) is always on.

My dash lights dim and brighten independent of the headlights switching between low beam and DRL. My dash lights also sometimes shift back and forth between dim and bright -- especially at sunset and when entering/exiting underpasses.

Have you had someone see what the current "Light control ... sensitivity" setting is?
