Knocking sound
Here's the scoop. I jacked it up on Sunday, oil was very clean and fresh, but the rear main seal was leaking and the lousy shop that supposedly replaced the rod and main bearings forgot to re-install the trans lower service cover/panel. Today I went by my friend's shop and inspected everything underneath. It's had some lousy service, but my friends told me not to panic. We are going to drop the trans, replace the rear main seal, inspect those bearings, service the trans, and replace the missing cover. Fortunately all of this will be done with trusted expertise and for a very good price. Oh yeah! The mystery noise was from a trans bolt that the lousy shop never tightened, it was knocking against the exhaust. The imbalance at 2000rpm is from several things, the trans mount which will be replaced next week, and the ball joints and rear knuckle joints are worn. I'll replace those when I get my tax refund. And maybe some new struts while I'm wrenching on those joints and bushings. Anybody got any recommendations on struts? I want good feel, but I want to retain a smooth ride.
