I dont know if it was me, but what I was reading seemed to be misinformation. The car during cold start, idle and WOT doesn't use EGR, so the gas is not dirtier, or is it hurting performance. The EGR opens up to allow exhaust back into the combustion chamber in order to fill up space in the cylinder. It is like a glass of water, if you are filling it up to the top of the glass, there is a set fluid oz that will need to be added. If one takes a rock and places it inside the glass, it will therefore reduce the amount of water you need to put in the glass, depending on how big the rock is. The EGR has the same effect as the rock, as already spent exhaust fumes contain no oxygen therefore will not combust. As far as left over fuel, that is what the cats are for, the EGR has a different function. It is simply to occupy a varying amount of space in the combustion chamber to reduce the amount of air/fuel mixture, not the actual A/F ratio.
I wonder if a leaky EGR pipe will cause your CEL to come on? Is your CEL on?
I had my EGR valve cleaned and my CEL came back on, but I have a knocking sound now (that someone said could be the exhaust leak from the EGR pipe) and wondering if this may be why my light came back on.
