So if you guys dont have that tube, or dont care, and are interested, please see my post in the Classified forums for detailed descriptions: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...&postid=280463
Asking price is $45 plus a couple more bucks for shipping. I originally bought it for about $80 including shipping. Thanks fellas.
Hey guys, I just got a K&N air intake kit for my 93 LS and have a question...
In the picture below, what does that circled tube do? and if i install a cone filter, what do I do with that tube? thanks!
If you dont have that tube, then you should be fine...its having that darn thing there that makes me think twice before removing the cold air box for the cone air intake... anyone know what to do?
Wierd, I have a 91 LS400 and i don't have that tube on my intake... Maybe you should call your dealer and see if they could tell you what it is and does.
Alrighty... the intake has been installed. The K&N intake kit is pretty simple with just a cone air filter, MAF adapter, clamp, and screws...
Anyways, I took my car to a nearby dealer in Beverly Hills and had a technician tell me what's up with that tube. Apparently, That tube vaccums the air and puts it directly out to the exhaust. He told me that i have 2 choices...
1) install the intake kit and just leave the tube hanging around sucking the air under the hood and piping it out the exhaust (wont hurt engine cuz its right out the exhaust) BUT this will fail me for a smog check.
or
2) drilling a hole in the MAF adaper and connect the tube to that so it serves the same function as when it was connected to the airbox...so that I would pass the smog check. The size of hole to be drilled would be a huge mother because the tube size is so big. Right now i'm just leaving the tube dangling.
I think the tube may be just a California thing cuz of the more stringent pollution requirements imposed on the vehicles... so sucking the cleaner air after it has been filtered would reduce nasty emissions.
Well, I bought the intake kit off ebay... it came with the MAF adaper, cone filter, clamp, and some screws. I've seen the seller list the item pretty often so keep a look out. Here's the link to the one that i won. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cg...tem=1806708480
The picture doest not show the correct MAF adapter...but trust me, it comes with one that fits perfectly on the LS (square to round). Maybe you can email him and see if you can buy from him directly... DOHCCivicNA1250@aol.com. Lemme know if you have any other questions.
After replacing the stock air box with the cone intake...i left that tube just kinda hang around in the engine. For some reason, the stuff that comes outta my exhaust smells REALLY bad (smells almost like gasoline).
Do you know whether this has to do with my intake OR because i didnt seal up that tube (circled in my first post)? I would really appreciate some insight!
Here's a picture of my intake installed with the tube hangning (circled in red). I really dunno what to do with that tube, if anybody has any ideas, lemme know!
