Alrighty so I read through this whole thread and have a few things I'm still foggy on. I have a 93 LS400 with the Nakamichi sound system with blown speakers. I have a Pioneer double din, Kicker 12" sub and a Kicker amp that I'm gonna have installed when I have my alarm done. I wanna try to cut costs though so I want to do the speakers myself. I'm just gonna go with some factory 4" sized ones to keep it simple. Do I need to bypass the factory speaker amp? How do I do that/where is it? Is there a separate amp for the factory sub? Where is that? I wanna take out the factory sub and amps if they aren't necessary/to improve sound quality from my Kicker 12" that's going in the trunk. And what color wires are power/ground in the factory speaker wiring? Thanks for the help guys.

You just have to pry up real hard in the front near the corners and on the rear sides. It feels like you might break something but its just held on by 4 tabs.

No problem, I actually took mine off recently since I'm doing some work on my car to bring it back up to spec. I have all the the seats, carpet and trim panels out of the car. I was scared I was going to break something when popping it off.

Smile Problem with sound system

After reading a lot of postings I cannot find one that really answers my problem. Please excuse me if a) I upset anyone because there is a thread out there that I missed, and b) if I ask a real simple (stupid) question.

I have a 1993 LS400 with the Nakamichi amp.

Over the last few years the sound from my speakers have diminish to the point that I can hardly hear them. I had a audio car store take a look and they said the speakers are fine it was probably a bad amp. Of course they wanted to sell me a new amp, head, speakers, etc.

So I found a Nakamichi amp on Ebay and installed it. Speakers volume is still the same. So does this mean I need new speakers after all or is there a head issue?

I cannot send back the amp I got off Ebay, so if anyone needs one, both of the ones I have work so I'll sell one.

Thanks.https://www.clublexus.com/forums/images/smilies/sad.gif

Well, considering that our cars are a tad old, it wouldn't be surprising if the plastic in the speaker cones were to become brittle. Perhaps pop the door panels and check the speaker wiring and see if anything were coming loose? Just check little things like that before you pull the trigger on a new set of speakers and install.

I asked this before but could someone with their original factory sub currently exposed give me the make and model number of it? - and the impedance if you know it.

The sub-woofer for a JDM UCF20/21 is a Pioneer TS-08003ZT, the impedance 2 Ohm, Toyota part number 86160-50100. Toyota had been in use of this between Nov. 94 to Sep. 00.
Links below might help you to know some more with photos. The last one shows the impedance.

Thanks Yamae!

the reason I ask, is that for the price of that silly Beatsonic box, I can get a nicer sub and a separate amp for it, for my new head unit, and not pay more for some magic black box than my new CD stereo costs!

You are welcome.
The Beatsonic box is more than the price of the DVD/ CD / CD-R deck which I have installed. I found it silly to buy and use the box. What I did was just to buy the cable below and connected to the JDM navi unit.

The close view of the deck and how it is installed are like these below.

Spending less than 1/3 of the money to buy a Beatsonic box, I now can enjoy MP3 music longer than 10 hours without any interruption. The only interruption is caused by me to take a rest or to eat. I also can enjoy videos too.
